Greetings,

I have been using a black gloss cashew lacquer with good results but I have also been looking for a clear/transparent top coat in either urushi or cashew but haven't been able to find what I'm looking for.
I have access to both types of lacquer. I understand there are transparent urushi but they all seem to have some tint or color, will this affect the base color it is applied over?

I am also looking for a black with a matte finish instead of glossy for painting samegawa.
would I use Jyoukeshi Urushi for this or Kuroroi Urushi?

Thank you in advance for any information provided.

-Josh

Hi,

I was speaking with a craftsman and he said that you can use urushi as a top coat over your cashew or a clear coat, and it should not effect the color. Also, if you want to have a matte finish on your samegawa, Kuroro-usrushi is best.

Best
