Greetings,

I have been trying to figure out what type of paper or possibly other material is used on the tsuka shitaji under the end knots.

Image

From a couple of pictures I've seen, including the picture above, it looks like the same paper used for hishigami only in black.

I have been using this paper for my hishigami

and when I need it darker I paint it with black ink so they look like this

Is this the same paper used for under the knots?

Thank you,

-Josh

Marlan san.
The way turned off and put into a triangle is an amateur's way.
This stayl HISHIGAMI to used JABARAMAKI (best).
HISHIGAMI is SEKISYU-HANSHI.
MENUKI side HISHIGAMI is MINGEISHI.
WASHI paper to put in is "MINGEI-SHI."
Fundamentally, MINGEISHI of the color near TSUKAITO is used.
It rubs well.
It uses making it soft.

Thank you.
Kensen

Thank you Kensen san,

I tried to make the hishigami as in this thread - http://www.thejapanesesword.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=240

What is the better way to make the hishigami? Thank you very much for your guidance :D

-Josh

I found these websites for "Mingeishi"

http://www.jerrysartarama.com/discount-art-supplies/sumi-e-supplies/awagami-factory-japanese-papers.htm

http://www.danielsmith.com/Item--i-202-515-071

Is this the correct paper?

Thank you

民芸紙 : MINGEI-SHI

Please look up this site.
http://www.awagami.com/wheretb/wheretb.html
By the country and store, deviation is on handling items.
There is also a store which does not deal with MINGEI-SHI.

Sorry all Japanese.
thank you.
