Here is an interesting hineri maki for a tanto.
On the omote side there is the normal single strand of the ito and then a second single strand. And on the ura there are three strands to start.
Looks like this was done so that the mekugi works on the omote side.
First time I have seen this. Does it happen often?
Any thoughts?
thanks david mcdonald

david mcdonald-san.
This is KATATSUMAMI-MAKI. Upper ITO is TSUMAMI-MAKI. Lower ITO is HINERI-MAKI. This thread is not TSUNEKUMI-ITO and is ITO of ICHIMAI-KORAI-KUMI.

Dear Kensen-san
Thank you.
Have you seen the technique where the omote side starts with the two single strands and on the ura has three strand put together for the first cross-over?
Looks like it was done to make sure the mekugi was in a diamond opening.

david mcdonald-san.
(Upper picture) They are the right 菱(HISHI) and 糸割(ITOWARI:分差BUNSA). 1 set: ITO is two. 0.5 (width of ITO) is required. Length which rolls ITO of TSUKA: HISHI(6)+ITO(0.5) =6.5 length and the width of thread do not suit. width of ITO do not suit.
Is the width of ITO changed? Is the length of a TSUKA changed? There are no solutions other than these.
Thank you. KENSEN
