i've seen many exemples of cow hide used instead of rayskin so i had to ask... were they soaked before application or simply put there?

also was it about the same thickness as samegawa?

thank you,

Étienne.

Rayskin(SAMEGAWA) is weak to water.
Horse's skin was used for SATSUMA-KOSHIRAE. (下級武士の拵 samurai of lower class).
Leather thickness is about 0.8~1mm.
Leather was pasted directly to the TSUKA-SHITAJI with 漆糊URUSHI-NORI (麦漆 MUGI-URUSHI), and the outside was painted with the 漆(URUSHI)lacquer.
