is the method the same for cotton or silk ito? if a strand of ito is 10mm wide or 8mm then the ito would appear very thin in the width. i'm asking this because i found out that tozando offered gangi maki now for their custom line of iaito and i wanted to have the same kind of wrap on my sword.

here's a picture of tozando gangi-maki offering (it is a small picture unfortunately i would have wanted a bigger one to see it better) :

i would lacquer it too it would never fall apart with use in a dojo :).

would i just need to overlap a potion of the ito in the cotton/silk ito option?

i don't think so but i had to ask because it would resemble this kind of wrap (i don't know the name but it seem to overlap a little if my eyes aren't confusing me... it doen't seem straight like the katate maki i'm used to see.
