Hi, recently i just picked up this Tanto and on the outside has alot of stylized Japanese which is hard for me to read. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could give me some help with the translation. I believe it is WWII and hoping that it the text can help trace it back to a family member in Japan.

there is also 3 characters carved in the wood which i believe is O Hachi Sen --- does this mean 8000 ?

Thanks in advance
darren

The carved kanji seem to be 主八千 aruji hachi sen, 8000 masters. ??? John
