Just want to say hello to all and give you a little bit of my background with Nihonto. I first got into sword collecting when I lived in Japan in the early 1970's. For over forty years I've collected on and off. I'm just getting back into collecting again after a seven year absence. As far as knowledge goes, I would say that I'm just a novice, I know enough to get myself into trouble. Back in 1980 I had the pleasure to meet Willis Hawley and visit him at his home on several occasions. I enjoyed those visits very much. I owe what little I know to my mentor the late Fredrick Pochelle who had a collection of over 800 swords and was always there to pass on what he knew about them. At the height of my collection I had fifteen blades. Now I only have two. An O-wakizashi from the Yamato Shikkake group and a koto Nagamaki-naoshi that I've been working on attributing.

Besides swords my other love is the collecting Ukiyo-e and Ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine coins.

Ron
